DETROIT – The Motor City Cruise, NBA G League affiliate of the Detroit Pistons, will host a one-day, open player tryout on Sunday, Sept. 13 at the Henry Ford Detroit Pistons Performance Center (6201 Second Ave., Detroit, MI 48202), beginning at 12 p.m. ET. Registered participants will compete for the opportunity to earn an invitation to Motor City Cruise training camp in October.
Participants will showcase their skills through NBA-level drills and scrimmages in front of Detroit Pistons and Motor City Cruise Basketball Operations staff. Interested players can register at cruisebasketball.com/opentryouts for a non-refundable $250 tryout fee. Each participant will receive a reversible tryout jersey to keep, along with two tickets to a select Motor City Cruise home game during the 2026-27 season. Spots are limited, and the registration deadline is Saturday, Sept. 12, at 5 p.m. ET.
Each NBA G League team may invite up to three players from its local tryout to training camp. The Cruise have established a proven track record of identifying talent through this process, including Detroit native and 2026 NBA G League Slam Dunk Champion John Ukomadu, who became the first open tryout participant to earn a spot on the Cruise training camp roster and complete a full season with the team after his rookie campaign. Additional players who earned opportunities with the Cruise through the open tryout process include Malique Jacobs, Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe, Symir Torrence, Brian Taylor and former Wayne State Warrior Ray Williams Jr.
Entering its sixth season as a franchise, the Motor City Cruise will play 24 home games at Wayne State Fieldhouse beginning in November. 2026-27 season memberships are available at CruiseBasketball.com.
