Motor City Cruise Select Jaylen Johnson With The Eighth Pick In The 2021 NBA G League Draft

Team Also Selects Ryan Daly With No. 36 Pick And Devon Baulkman With No. 64 Pick

DETROIT – The Motor City Cruise announced today that the club has selected forward Jaylen Johnson with the eighth overall pick in the 2021 NBA G League Draft, along with guards Ryan Daly and Devon Baulkman in the second and third rounds, respectively.

“We are pleased to welcome Jaylen, Ryan and Devon to the Motor City Cruise. This is a great day for our new franchise during our first NBA G League draft,” said Rob Murphy, President and General Manager for the Motor City Cruise. “Jalen and Devon both bring G League experience and will add quality depth to our roster, while Ryan is a leader and versatile scorer that will fit well in our system. We look forward to working with all three of these players this season.”

Johnson, 6-9, 230, averaged 7.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists, in 16.5 minutes over 33 games for the Iowa Wolves during the 2019-20 season. Prior to his time in the G League, Johnson played three seasons at the University of Louisville with averages of 5.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.4 assists, in 15.3 minutes over 88 games. Johnson, a Michigan native, attended high school at Ypsilanti High School, where he was a finalist for the Hal Schram Mr. Basketball award and named First Team All-State in his senior year.

Daly, 6-5, 225, played collegiately at the University of Delaware before transferring to Saint Joseph’s University.  During two seasons at Delaware, Daly averaged 16.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists, in 35.4 minutes over 60 games.  He led the Blue Hens in scoring in both seasons, while also earning All-CAA Third Team honors in back-to-back years.  During two years at Saint Joseph’s University, Daly averaged 20.0 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists, in 34.8 minutes over 40 games.  He led the Hawks in scoring both seasons, while also leading the Big 5 Conference in scoring during the 2021-21 season.

Baulkman, 6-4, 201, spent the 2019-20 G League season with Grand Rapids, averaging 5.5 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.8 assists, in 13.6 minutes over a span of 36 games.  Prior to his time in Grand Rapids, Baulkman spent two seasons with the Westchester Knicks where he averaged 7.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.9 assists.  As a collegian, Baulkman played two seasons at the University of Tennessee where he averaged 7.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists, in 21.4 minutes over 65 games.
